Making Money on the Road
It sounds like music to your ears, earning money while on the move... but unfortunately, it doesn't work quite that easily! At least, it didn’t for me.Through trial and error, I’ve learned a lot. I’ve encountered myself many times on the way to realizing the dreams I wanted to achieve for myself. How do you travel and make money? Are you feeling good, do you have a mode of transport, is it realistic, or are you more tied to a place or environment?
Do you have any ideas on how to do this?
There are several ways to make money "on the road":
Sell online lessons
Start a blog and focus on the affiliate market
Work with WorkAway
Become a digital nomad (Upwork, Freelance & Fiverr—these platforms offer freelance jobs)
The internet and meeting/chatting with other nomads who have gone ahead of me have been my greatest allies in figuring everything out. I’ve spent countless hours researching how to fund my lifestyle, what my expenses would be, how much I’d want to save, etc. There are many who have already chosen this nomadic lifestyle with a camper/car/backpack. By reading a lot about it and asking questions, you slowly learn more about the how and why!
But how do I make my money?
I work as a photographer.During my travels, I photograph for various companies, individuals, and websites. I also do shoots for maternity, love, lifestyle, etc., and I explore ways to find collaborations via social media, for example.I’ve also started this website, which will primarily track my travel and portfolio on the road, but will also include photography tips & tricks, collaborations with companies, and promotions. (It’s still in its early stages, as I’m not leaving until next year, but creating and building a website takes months).Additionally, companies can send me products to photograph and promote on my Instagram or website. With a growing and expanding network, this becomes more and more interesting!
You have to start somewhere... this website didn’t just appear overnight. I actually worked on it for five months before launching it.
Now you might be thinking:
"Why did you wait so long?"
Well, it had to be polished and finished, and everything had to work well... because if it doesn't, the website quickly becomes uninteresting.
Eventually, when some years have passed, and the percentage of visitors to my site has grown, and I’ve delved deeper into, for example, the affiliate market, I can earn a nice income from it!
I personally found it very important that I could generate income in addition to my photography. Since I absolutely love writing and building websites, this turned out to be a great solution.
But let’s say you’re not a photographer/videographer/website builder or not interested in learning about affiliate marketing... what then?Well, it doesn’t stop there! There are many ways to travel and make money!I mentioned some examples earlier of how you can travel and make money. You don’t even always need your own business. In exchange for working on a farm, vineyard, or doing other tasks, you may be able to stay at a place for a longer period—often with accommodation or a pitch provided!
You could also work in hospitality or other fields to fund your travels.
Good luck!!
