The clothes I wear during a photoshoot can affect my professional appearance. I personally find it very important to consider the type of shoot and dress accordingly!
Here are some of my tips for choosing clothing as a photographer:
Comfort comes first: Photography can be physically demanding (believe me, sometimes I’m surprised myself, haha), especially during long photoshoots or outdoor shoots. Choose clothes that are comfortable and suitable for the weather and environment you’re working in.
Avoid bright colors and busy patterns: Bright colors and busy patterns can cause reflections on the subject, leading to glare in the photos, which is a shame if it's not intentional. Also, remember that you’re not the subject of the shoot! Personally, I often opt for neutral colors.
Dress for the situation: Tailor your clothing to the type of photoshoot. For formal events or business portraits, formal clothing might be appropriate, while more casual clothing may be better suited for informal shoots.
Layers are useful: Especially for outdoor shoots, the weather can be unpredictable. I love wearing layers, especially for weddings, as it’s a big tip to adapt to the temperature!
Consider a professional appearance: When working at formal events, consider clothing that looks professional but also allows you to move comfortably.
Comfortable shoes: Photographers often have to walk and stand a lot—think weddings, events, business shoots, etc. My favorite shoes that I usually wear are Dr. Martens.
Personal appearance: I also find it very important to wear clothes that make me feel good about myself! Comfort, good shoes, minimal makeup, and soft-colored clothes are key for me.
